Summer updates from Parker, CO

  7/5/02 - 11:30 PM

It's been a while since my last update but I sure have been busy.  Last week was crazy.  July is completely full of trips so we had to be ready for all of them by the end of June.  I think we pretty much made it but it was a lot of work.

Just today I got back from a week of Middle School camp at Camp Como.  It was A LOT of fun.  It went really well.  Just before we left this morning Jeremy told me that it was one of the best, if not the best, middle school camp he had been to.

Camp was a lot of fun but it was also a lot of work.  I had never been so involved in every part of a camp and I came back today exhausted.  My main responsibilities were organizing and leading all the planned games, teaching a class, "Extreme God Chasers", and leading a family group.  I did other things (pretty much whatever needed to be done, or whatever Jeremy told me to do) but those were my main responsibilities.

I had an awesome time just hanging out with the kids.  This is Mike.  The camp is having a severe water shortage this year and showers are limited to every other day so I guess he thought he would take advantage of the afternoon shower and have some fun and get cleaned off at the same time.  Who would have guessed that middle schoolers could have fun, even in the rain.  Just one of the many reasons that I love them.

There was a lot of fun time.  Some how, Jeremy got me up on stage to do Karaoke, I played a lot of midnight basketball and I even tried my hand at horseshoes.  This is a picture of Mike, the speaker, and Austin, the most competitive man I've ever met, playing a "friendly" game with the view of the mountains in the background.  There were a lot of fun times, but probably the most fun I had wasn't during the game times.  There were two times specifically that I remember.  One was a few minutes after our only invitation time.  We had all spread into our family groups and prayed and as I went back into the gym to get something I saw a student sitting alone in the gym along the wall.  I began talking with him and he told me how God had impacted him that night.  He couldn't stop shaking he was so touched.  I had the chance to pray with him several times and we talked for a while.

It was so awesome sitting there listen to that young tell me about his love for God and his desire to serve Him.  I couldn't help but cry as he prayed thanking God and telling Him how much he loves him.  That had to be the highlight of my week.

Seeing kids crying out to God.  Listening to them as they talk about what they want to change and how they want to talk with their friends.  Watching them as they unashamedly focus their whole attention on God during worship.  You can't describe for me a better job then this.  I get to hang out with an awesome group of kids and I get to help in some small way as God changes their lives.  You can't beat this.

Next up, CIY in Gunnison, CO.  We leave Monday morning and I have really high hopes for what God is going to do in the lives of our high school students.

If you can't tell by my writing that I am having a terrific time, here is a little proof.  This is Tyler (left), one of our high school student who played drums for us at camp.  Honestly, could I have a cheesier grin than this?

Thanks for all of your continued support and your prayers.  God Bless.
