Can you see it?

The ministry that I lead will be constantly changing and at the same time consistent.  It will be a solid, well organized, purposeful ministry that is constantly moving new students from the community into the congregation, developing them spiritually until they become leaders who will themselves naturally bring in new community students.

The ministry will not be my ministry but God’s ministry.  It will be led more by the students than myself.  My job will be to prepare them for leadership and to guide them as they minister to their peers.

A community of students, adults and myself will lead it.  A quality youth ministry with over 15-20 people cannot exist without major involvement of other adult leaders.  Because of this, my role will be that of facilitator for relationships between adult leaders and students.  Our adult leaders will have the primary mentoring roles with our student leaders and in turn, our student leaders will mentor their friends and the newer students.

A major part of being a disciple of Jesus is being active in his ministry, so the students will lead our ministry.  The adults and I will act as guides but our students will take charge.  They will also be well prepared for life after high school because they will already have years of experience in ministry.

Our ministry will be known in the community, small town or suburb, because of the impact we make for Christ.  I don’t want to give specific numbers, because size of community often controls the maximum number of students you have.  But I will say this: every person in every school in our area will know about our ministry.  We may not have every student visit, but every student will know about what we are doing and will have an opportunity to come.  Often people want to say that numbers don’t matter, and I understand what they mean.  But numbers do matter.  Numbers are more than just numbers, they are people who have found hope in Jesus and are freed from the bondage of sin.

We will not exist to prepare the future leaders of the church.  Our youth will be making an impact for Christ in their lives as students, not just preparing themselves for what they might do in the future.  Our ministry will change lives for the glory of God.
