Why
Do I Want To Be A Youth Minister?
I have been a leader in my youth group ever since I started sixth
grade and I was old enough to be a part of it.
I have always loved serving God and that has always been one of the
joys of my life. After a number
of different situations in my life, I finally opened my mind to the idea of
ministry and I was immediately excited, and I have been ever since.
I worked things out and transferred to Lincoln Christian College, and
ever since my heart has been completely stuck on ministry.
From the very start of my work at LCC I thought I would like youth
ministry, but having taken some classes now and gotten even more involved
with my church student minister, I now know that youth ministry is where God
wants me. I love working
with kids and I feel God has really given me the gifts to work with them.
For a while I struggled with knowing how I would know what God wanted
to do with me, but then I heard someone say that the way you know is that
you have the talents and abilities and you also have the passion for
something. Both of those
requirements are more than filled, and now I can’t wait to get started
with the work God has for me. I want to be a youth minister for all of the above reasons, but also my heart has been broken for teenagers. They are our future and if we abandon them, we abandon our future. More than that, they can do so much for the kingdom right now. They face challenges at school and with their friends that we could hardly imagine. They face so much and they are viewed in such a bad light, but I believe that they have so much to offer. When they put their minds to something and really commit, they can accomplish things that few of us can imagine. I want to work with youth because I believe they have much more to offer our churches than most people give them credit for, and I want to be a part of what they are doing in the Kingdom.
